Lowland make no concessions in the choice of tent fabrics or other components, as this could undermine the performance or function of the design.
Every material, strap or buckle is selected or developed on many years of our experience. All parts are tested for performance and during the tent production, satisfying our high standards. |
Production quality is checked by well trained quality managers on the spot.
Unique to Lowland is the fact that
every tent is erected entirely and checked extensively before being wrapped up and leaving the factory, to make 100% sure they are in good order. |

PRS-70
40D Nylon 6.6 ripstop of 68g/m2, waterproofing of more than 3500mm water column. This fly sheet has a tear resistance of >15kg and is used for mountaineering.
CARRINGTON 100% NYLON RIPSTOP ELASTOMER COATED
Ripstop Nylon of 72g/m2, waterproofing of more than 5000mm water column. This special High-tenacity 3 layer silicone elastomer coated fabric is used for mountaineering and expedition tents. The tear resistance is more than 560kg. Read more....
INNER TENT FABRIC
For all inner tents we use a strong 40D nylon ripstop material with a high density. The fabric is waterproof treated and very breathable. The weight is 44g/m2.
GROUND SHEET FABRIC
A ground sheet has another function than fly sheet fabric. It can let no water through when you stand on wet grass or snow, but must also be resistant against a rugged surface and not wear when you crawl through your tent. A very high tear resistance is not necessary as it is not subject to the stresses of high wind or snow as with the fly sheet, it also receives no direct UV rays. it does however have a PU coating against higher water column pressure and higher wear resistance. For the whole tent collection we have developed a high quality of ground sheet fabric.
XC ENDURANCE
For tents used in abnormal and heavier circumstances you need an even more wear resistance ground sheet material for very rugged surfaces. For all our tents we use now 70D Nylon 6 taffeta, with a very high wear resistance PU coating. The waterproofing is more than 10.000mm water column and weighs 105 g/m2

Tent poles are the backbone of every tent. because this is such an important part of the tent, we work closely with DAC from Korea, market leader in aluminium tent poles.
Together we have developed tent frames based on DAC NFL Featherlite poles, The lightest and strongest aluminium tent poles of the moment. |
Also new construction techniques such as Reverse-Combi are used for example in the Conquest, Mountaintracker and Ice Cap to combine shape and strength in combination with a light weight.
The Reverse-Combi system originated in design to provide dome tents with a straight up standing inner tent for more useful inner space.
A standard Reverse-Combi tent pole has thicker parts in the middle and thinner on the ends. Because of this tapering the curvature adopts a wider and more upright posture.
We have adapted the Reverse-Combi technology to use the thicker parts in the middle and on the ends of the poles. These parts now take the most wind stress. In this manner the wind stress is spread over the whole pole without extra weight. This is then lighter as well as stronger than normal tent poles.
